Maybe and May Be

Maybe is an adverb meaning "perhaps." May be is a verb phrase showing possibility.

Examples:

I heard that our instructor may be absent today. Maybe class will be canceled.

Practice:

(a) I'm not sure, but I think Gus ______ hiding in the shed.
