Role and Roll

A role is a character or part played by a performer. Roll has many senses, including a portion of bread and a list of names of persons belonging to a group.

Examples:

  • "When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer 'Present' or 'Not Guilty.'" (Theodore Roosevelt)
